An unused, unloved red phone box has been saved from the scrap heap by residents and councillors in Prickwillow, near Ely.
Local residents joined forces with the Council last year to save the phone box from demolition, buying it from BT for just £1.
Now, the space is to be used to promote the work of local artists, starting with the unique sculptures created by local designer, Pete Baker.
A wide range of Pete's work, including steel mushrooms and fairies, will be displaying inside the illuminated phone box for the next month for local people and passer-bys to enjoy.
The brainchild of local graphic desiner Nick Edell, the phone box will be filled with different displays until 2011 promoting local artists and culture within the region.
Nick commented: “We are hoping that this phone box - an iconic English space - will capture community imagination and we are already very excited about the level of enthusiasm the idea has received."
Further information on the location of the phone box and its plans for the future can be found at The Phonebox Gallery website.
