Motorists caught using their mobile phones in Newmarket are being offered the chance to take a new road safety course rather than face a hefty fine or points on their license.
Newmarket is one of the first Police forces in the UK to trial the new courses, aimed at motorists who are caught using phones whilst at the wheel or supervising a learner.
Starting tomorrow, the courses cost the offender around £74 to take part, but mean that they avoid having points applied to their license, a £60 fixed penalty and the risk of their insurance costs increasing.
