Newmarket's new mayor was announced at the annual meeting of the town this week.
Councillor Mick Jeffreys will take over from Jane Bailey who stood down after completing a year in the position.
Mayor Jeffreys, a former assistant principal at Newmarket College and deputy mayor during 2009, is one of the longest serving members of the Newmarket council, having been present since its inception in 1999.
Commenting on his new appointment Mayor Jeffreys outlined: “It’s a great honour to serve the town of Newmarket as chairman of the council and mayor.”
