Newmarket based rowing champion, Ben Hicks, is getting set for gold medal glory at the London 2012 Olympics, following his recent successes at the Commonwealth Games.
Taking the open single scull gold at the British Championships and silver in the Commonwealth Games earlier this year, 25 year old Ben, who trains at the Isle of Ely Rowing Club, admitted that he is now feeling the pressure to deliver gold at the Olympics: "In all honesty, I feel the pressure. But that's one of the things that drives me."
"I got into the sport two years ago and wasn't really certain how things would go but it's gone fantastically."
Ben, who was named Suffolk Sports Personality of the Year this week, also explained that he was not yet in full training mode for the London 2012 Olympics: "It's a very big year for me, I've got to basically get into the Great Britain squad by next April, we're in a phase where we've got lots and lots of mileage and lots lots of distance during the winter months."
