Newmarket vs Network Rail – petition signed by locals

A route that takes Newmarket locals over the railway line and in turn cuts up to 30 minutes off of many peoples journeys to various places, notably the school, is under threat from Network Rail who have made plans for its closure.

More than 600 residents of the local area have signed a petition to keep the footpath open, waging a campaign to persuade Network Rail to change their minds and listen to the locals and the council as to what the area wants and needs.

Newmarket residents do not deem the footpath to be a danger, and instead there is feeling that restricting its use will only cause traffic congestion and more pollution.

The campaign against the move is in current stages of decision, and so we will keep an eye on this to see what happens next!
