Shoppers in Newmarket were forced to run for safety yesterday as a runaway horse raced down Newmarket High Street.
The horse, which had escaped from the local Godolphin stables, ran from the Clock Tower down the entire length of the High Street at around 11:30am, with jockeys and stableboys chasing after it in cars.
Local shop workers outlined that they were amazed no one was injured as local people sheltered in nearby doorways: “It could have been quite nasty if it had hit one of the cars.”
