Named in memory of legendary trainer Sir Henry Cecil, The Henry Cecil Open Weekend offers a unique opportunity to delve behind the scenes in Newmarket, the headquarters of British Racing, as some of Britain's best known racing yards open their gates to the public whilst raising money for two charity partners: The Newmarket Housing Trust and Racing Welfare.
A fantastic weekend for the all the family begins on Saturday 21st September as a number of equine sites around Newmarket including Newmarket Equine Hospital, Peter O'Sullevan House, British Racing School, The National Stud, Godolphin Rehoming, Tattersalls, National Horseracing Museum and Jockey Club Rooms are open for visitors, followed by racing at Newmarket's Rowley Mile Racecourse. Sunday morning begins on Warren Hill gallops as some of the equine stars of British Racing are cantered up the gallops for all to see before visitors can go behind the scenes at the yards and see the love, care and attention that goes in to looking after racehorses. The Shetland Pony Grand National starts an afternoon of entertainment on The Severals. Guests can then see a number of retired equine stars be paraded in the HCOW Retired Racehorse Parade sponsored by Al Shaqab Rehoming before some of the biggest names in British Flat racing take on the show jumps. Bring along your four legged friends to take part in the fun dog show which takes place on Sunday afternoon. Food and drinks are available with several outlets in place.
