The Cobblers have signed David Cornell on a two-year contract. He has been released from League One rivals Oldham Athletic. The 25-year-old goalkeeper used to play for the Wales Under-21 national team and he joined Oldham Athletic last summer after leaving Swansea.
He got 17 appearances for the Latics which isn’t much but will try to get top spot off Adam Smith who was instrumental in Northampton Towns title run last season. The Cobblers did of course finish top of the pile!
In an interview with the local BBC Radio Northampton he was optimistic about his future and said “It should be good competition, He (Smith) had a fantastic season last year but I’m happy enough to challenge anyone in these leagues.”
Ryan Clarke has left to ply his trade at AFC Wimbledon after not appearing in the league at all last season and this is where Cornell fits into the mix.
