For those who weren't watching the football last night, Barry Dennis, a Norwich business consultant and ex- MD of Archant, gave a brilliant talk at the Antidote about how to get free publicity.
He described how he once raised his village fair's profile (and fund-raising) by coming up with the idea of a cowpat throwing competition - the competition got picked up in the national press and ended up generating loads of free publicity - how clever is that?
Barry Dennis is now involved with Future Radio, a thriving local community radio station in Norwich with over 150 volunteers.
What makes Future Radio different, is that they are not limited by playlists - they can play whatever music they like and their radio shows cover all sorts of topics for all age groups - from teenagers trying their hand as DJs to classical music, community talk shows, business news and music for all age groups.
Recently they played a piece of classical music which has never been on the radio - it is 4 and a half hours long and was broadcast from midnight onwards. It was picked up in New York and has now had over 5,000 listeners. The presenter now has an audience of thousands across the world. This is all possible with the internet - people from all over the world can listen online or can listen to podcasts on the internet. If you want to try it out for yourself, click here.
Future Radio offers the whole community of Norwich the chance to get involved, whether it is helping behind the scenes, presenting or being interviewed. There is even a team building day for corporate events with a difference.
If you have something interesting or newsworthy - or even just want a tour of the station, give Future Radio a call on Norwich (01603) 455250.
Personally I would like to say a big thank you to Barry Dennis for an interesting talk last night, for his enthusiasm for the local community and for his own enthusiasm and promotion of thebestofnorwich.
