Dancing has enjoyed a renaissance of late. Television programmes like Strictly Come Dancing have helped introduce people to classic dances like the tango and the rumba while giving them a contemporary feel. And if you look at the growth of street dance, with recent winners of Britain’s Got Talent all strutting their stuff, dancing is definitely cool again.
If it’s something that you’ve always wanted to try then there has never been a better time. Its growing popularity means there are more opportunities than ever to strap on those dancing shoes! Even if you’ve never danced a step in your life there will be something for you with people of an equivalent level.
Miller Dance is located between Aylsham and Drayton Roads in Norwich and specialises in ballroom dancing. In fact, 16-year-old Luke, the son of owners Richard and Lynn Miller, is a Junior Ballroom and Latin World Champion along with his dance partner Hanna Cresswell. He’s also danced his way onto numerous TV shows including ITV talent show Born To Shine in 2011 and Sky1’s Got To Dance just last month.
If you’re going to learn, then what better place than a studio that can produce a world champion? Miller Dance offers lessons in pretty much every dance you’ll ever have seen on Strictly and more, including ballroom, waltz, jive, samba and salsa. Classes are also available for children.
If you’d prefer something that’s a bit different then you could try Nuline Dance. It’s line dancing but not like any line dancing that you’ve ever seen before!
Featuring a mixture of musical genres from Latin to Celtic and jazz to country, it’s the perfect way to get out, keep fit, learn something new and meet people all at the same time.
Classes are held at Frere Road Community Centre on Heartsease Estate and the Canary Social Club on Thorpe Road and cater to varying levels of ability.
Whether you see yourself as the next Fred Astaire or Ginger Rogers or just want to give it a go, there’s no excuse for not stepping out and giving dance a try!
