Lord Mayor's Celebrations in Norwich

You won't believe how much is going on this weekend. Not only is it the Lord Mayor's Parade and Fireworks on Saturday, and the Norwich Lanes Fayre and the Duck Race on Sunday, the the whole weekend is taken up with the Lord Mayor's celebrations. It feels as if something is going on every minute of the day and evening.

So, where do we start?

Funfair: There is a funfair at Chapelfield Gardens open on Saturday from 11am until 10pm and on Sunday from midday until 7pm.

Street Entertainment: There is live music - bands, singers, musicians, street theatre and loads of entertainment all around the city centre throughout the weekend.

Take the digital arts trail where artists, musicians and writers have made recordings about the unusual thing that you can spot around Norwich. This trail actually runs up until Saturday 2nd August. The trail is available on your smartphone, or a paper map is available from Norwich Arts Centre. Click here  for more information.

Children: For Children, as well as the funfair and street entertainment, there is more fun and games in Chapelfield Gardens, including Punch and Judy, mini Monkey Gym and a chance to learn circus skills. These activities are taking place on Saturday from 11am – 5pm and on Sunday from midday to 5pm.

Road Race and Lord Mayor's Procession:

At 4.50pm on Saturday The Lord Mayor’s 5km Road Race starts on Agricultural Hall Plain and at 5pm The Lord Mayor's Procession starts from Newmarket Road. This procession of floats wends it way from Newmarket Road through St Stephens Street, Castle Meadow, Tombland and finishes in Princes Street. It is anticipated that it will take around an hour for the first float to make it through the whole route.

Viewing for disabled people is on Castle Meadow opposite Opie Street.

Fireworks: This wonderful day will end with a fantastic firework display with Norwich Castle as the backdrop. The firework display will be at 10.30pm. There is a viewing area for disabled people on the pavement outside City Hall/St Giles Street.

Sunday:

Duck Race: Watch thousands of brightly coloured ducks race to the finish line! The ISTEMA
Orchestra will be entertaining the crowds prior to start time. The race takes place from the Lady Julian Bridge at Riverside.
Organised by the 1st Norwich Sea Scout Group, there are five prizes: £500, £250, £125, £75 and £50.

Bishop of Norwich Open Gardens: Enjoy tea and cakes in the beautiful garden of the Bishop of Norwich. Access is via Bishopgate on sunday from1pm - 4.30pm. Admission is £3; children and wheelchair-users go free.


Norwich Lanes Summer Fayre 11am to 6pm (or later in some venues) - stalls, dance, music and much more in St Benedicts Street, St Gregory's Green, Bridewell Museum, Norwich Arts Centre, Maddermarket Theatre and other venues around the Norwich Lanes. Click here  for more information

 

Look out for Mustard Coffee Bar  who will have a Soul Food BBQ stall, with Zoe Grace singing Soul and Blues in Bedford Street. Look out for Megan who will be serving delicious iced coffee and cake.
Mustard will be open from 10-4 on the Sunday, if you need to have a breather and take the weight off your feet.

 

Running the Healing area, you'll find our friends from the The Orange Grove Clinic , on offer are taster treatments and maybe a massage in the sunshine!

 

Look out also for live music, DJs and bands in and around Norwich, including Chapelfield Gardens, the Forum, Gentleman's Walk

Road Closures:

Buses

On Saturday 5 July there will be temporary bus stops on Surrey Street and All Saints Green (outside John lewis) for departures affected by road closures in the day.

After 7pm , buses run from Norwich Bus Station.

Harford, Airport and Sprowston Park and Ride will run until 7.30pm. There will be extra Park and Ride services to Thickthorn until 11pm.
