My First Play: A Midsummer Night’s Nap is a new, immersive retelling of the Shakespeare comedy for the whole family from The Garage in Norwich and All-In Productions.

Adapted and directed by All-In Productions’ Daniel Burgess, it runs at The Garage from Saturday 20 July – Sunday 4 August 2019.

Our press preview is Friday 19 July, 4pm (invite attached).

My First Play: A Midsummer Night’s Nap has been produced with support by Arts Council England and CiM Signs and Graphics.

On a cool summer’s night, all havoc is breaking loose in the forest. The fairies are up to no good and they want you to help them. The Fairy King and Queen have fallen out of love. Meanwhile, a group of awful actors are getting ready to put on their play when their lead actor is turned into a donkey. Will all be right by morning or was it just a dream?

Aimed at ages 0-7, the show is performed in an informal setting with the audience free to come and go as they please, babies can be fed and youngsters encouraged to make noise. Lasting around 50 minutes to an hour, there’s a relaxed performance on Monday 22 July, a BSL interpreted performance Thursday 25 July and an audio-described performance on Friday 2 August.

My First Play: A Midsummer Night’s Nap follows on from the success of April’s My First Circus: The Littlest Mermaid and last year’s My First Panto: Little Red Riding Hood.

Daniel said: “It’s a stripped back version of the original play. If your children loved watching the CBeebies Presents stage shows like The Tempest, which is also by Shakespeare, or The Nutcracker they’ll love A Midsummer Night’s Nap.

“It’s important that youngsters’ first impression of the theatre is engaging, exciting and relaxed. There’s no shushing during a My First show. In fact it’s the opposite. The kids – and mums, dads and grandparents too – are part of the story with lots of singing, dancing and dressing up.

“The My First productions are full of all the silliness of children’s shows like Hey Duggee and the join in fun of series like Justin’s House. They can come and go as they like, shout as loud as they want and are basically the fifth member of the cast.

“Nearly 1,200 came to see My First Circus: The Littlest Mermaid earlier this year. We can’t wait to welcome everybody into the enchanted forest.”
