Edge Hill University has recently submitted a planning application to West Lancashire Council for a new sports and recreation complex at its St Helens Road site. The proposal is for a new sports building along with outdoor sports facilities, pitches and games courts. The scheme also includes the formation of a new signal-controlled junction with the A570 St Helens Road and an internal access road to serve as the main entrance to the whole campus. A total of 708 temporary car parking spaces would become permanent and there would be 230 new permanent spaces.
Ormskirk Community Partnership (OCP) is encouraging Ormskirk residents to now come forward with their views on the proposals, bearing in mind West Lancashire Council have recently extended the consultation period through until 30 August.
Is this the right place for development? Will expansion benefit the town? Do students need to have all amenities on one campus or would other sites provide regeneration opportunities for other areas? These are just some of the questions that spring to mind, and no doubt people will have their own particular considerations to raise.
