"Since the introduction of the Construction Design and Management Regulations 2007, which requires clients, principal contractors and contractors to ensure that all parties are competent in their duties under Health and Safety Regulations. We have seen a rise in contractor Health and Safety Assessment schemes including Safe Contractor which is controlled by Connaught Group, Construction-line and CHAS. CHAS is a non commercial, non profit, a national scheme which is owned and managed by the public sector and is widely used by local councils and the NHS to assess the competence of their contractors."
"Companies may be asked by their clients to register on the CHAS Approval list, to achieve this you will be assessed by a CHAS Assessor on your Health and Safety standards which includes Health and Safety Documentation, Training Records, Site and Equipment Inspections. As a minimum requirement all trades people will need to do a basic Asbestos Awareness course within the last 12 months before registration."
