Oswestry Dial-a-ride are making a request to local businesses in Oswestry town centre for help with parking spaces for the Dial-a-ride buses.
Parking for the Dial-a-ride mini- buses is only required for about an hour at a time and Dial-a-ride would be able to inform people when parking is required during the day. The town centre location of Oswestry Dial-a-ride on Oswald Road is ideal for some Dial-a-ride members and for the Shopbmobility service but without a dedicated car park area in the town the volunteer drivers struggle to park up the buses between pick -ups.
The problem has been recently compounded by the cessation of Dial-a-ride’s Disability Blue Badge status which allowed the buses to park within disabled bays outside Qube on Oswald Road for short periods of time.
Local businesses around the town centre are being asked to donate parking space for Dial-a-ride buses to park up between pick-ups Monday to Friday. Any interested local business can contact the transport office at Qube on 01691 671 571.
“We are always grateful to the support we receive from the local business community, Cambrian Railway have provided some parking space and Aico continue to generously support us, and we are asking again for help with the parking of buses on a temporary basis throughout the week" said Liz Hindmarch, Buildings and Transport Manager at Qube.
The Dial-a-ride service provides accessible transport to local residents in and around Oswestry. This door-to-door service is aimed at the elderly, disabled, and rurally isolated in the Oswestry area assisting local residents with a general transport need and operates through the use of volunteer drivers and volunteer passenger escorts.
A quick introduction - I'm John Waine, Director of TheBestOfOswestry. Having lived in this beautiful area for around 20 years now, I have decided to stay. :)
With kind thanks
