These are exciting times for Oswestry Markets. We are currently undergoing a £120,000 refurbishment of the Indoor Market after winning a national place improvement award in the Times newspaper.
By achieving the most votes, Oswestry Market won a new interior design by Sir Terrance Conran and after securing funding from Oswestry Town Council and the Market Town Revitilation Grant it will eventually see the installation of a new lift, brand new disabled toilets, complete replacement of the shop fascias and canopies, extensive painting, modern lighting and WIFI.
These long awaited improvements are set to really enhance the shopping experience for the customer and will enable the retailer to improve their trade, with the work aimed to be complete prior to Christmas. The work has been scheduled so that it doesn’t interrupt market days, so that the market remains open throughout the project and all work has been agreed after trader consultation.
This project has had plenty of local media interest and along with many new initiatives it is hoped these improvements will re-launch the market place, outdoor and indoor, and make them strong and sustainable for the future. Already there have been many recent improvements helped by some strong traders. We boast the best fish monger in town and have many specialist products throughout the market offering great value and expertise. We have improved our online media by introducing facebook and twitter whilst improving our website and for the first time ever Oswestry Market experienced a six month radio campaign on Radio Severn. Road signage has also improved and new town centre finger posts are set to be introduced later this year.
I thank anyone who uses Oswestry Markets and hope they have an enjoyable experience whilst visiting. We still have a long way to go but our markets remain an extremely important asset to the town and we all appreciate your continued support.
