January, the two faced month bids goodbye to the madness that was December and turns to welcome the potential of 2014. For those of you bitten by the knitting bug, or stung by the Sewing Bee, Oswestry promises to be a buzzing hive of creative activity.
To get us in the swing, Oswestry Library has two one off workshops in January:-
Saturday 18th – Adult beginners Knitting Group and Wednesday 22nd January – knitting without knitting pattern.
Melanie Barnes has a whole host of textile courses at the North Walford Oswestry Campus from dressmaking , embroidery techniques through to patchwork. There are also free taster sessions on Crewel work, Bullion Knots and Bayeux Stitch. Contact the college on: 01691 688 000 for further information. Or visit www.wnsc.ac.uk.
February sees the start of a new adult arts and crafts experience – “Gluing for Grown Ups” with the fabulous Becca of Alterknitives. First session is on Friday 7th February between 7:30pm and 9:30pm. The venue is the Oswestrarian on English Walls. Contact Becca on her facebook page, email: becca@alterknitive.co.uk or phone: 07814 211974.
The multi-talented Sara Piper Heap is running her jewellery making and enamelling workshops at her Cambrian Works Studio, with the first beginner’s Jewellery Course on 11th January. Places are limited, so please ring asap to book.
Finally, the rather lovely CuriousTea Room on English Walls is opening its welcoming arms and squishy sofas to creative knitters, crocheteers, embroiderers and other creatives on Wednesday evenings from 7:00pm – 9:00pm.
So, or sew, you lot, absolutely no excuse for not flexing them fingers and learning lovely new skills that will bring pleasure to you and to the lucky recipients of your work.
Charmed to my boots by Oswestry and the Welsh Marches. I happily do my best to support the fantastic independent shops and businesses in the area through The Best of Oswestry.
