Last night, in a tense and lively meeting, Oswestry Town Council made a landmark decision to throw out the two remaining proposals OSW003/4 for development by Old Oswestry Hillfort. Their official statement is as follows:
Hillfort - Samdev
The below are the revised comments of the Council on the SAMdev preferred options following last nights meeting.
Site OSW003 – part – Oldport Farm, Gobowen Road
The Town Council now opposes this allocation endorsing the viewpoint of English Heritage that the allocation represents an over intensive use of the site that would be to the detriment of the Hillfort significance.
Site OSW004 – part – Land off Whittington Road
At our meeting last evening, acknowledging the revised view of English Heritage and also the various professional submissions and viewpoint on this matter, the Town Council now oppose the inclusion of OSW004 and formally request its removal.
General Matter
The Council would ask Shropshire Council for a commitment following SAMDev to look to develop planning guidance for the Hillfort and its surrounds for the future bringing together interested agencies to formulate a strategy and policies looking to the historical and archaeological protection and promotion of the site.
A quick introduction - I'm John Waine, Director of TheBestOfOswestry. Having lived in this beautiful area for around 20 years now, I have decided to stay. :)
With kind thanks
