Oswestry Town Council voted last night to defer a decision on the County Councils controversial SAMDEV development document which would have given the green light to housing at the foot of Old Oswesty Hill Fort.
In the face of over 6,000 signatures to the petition, a crowded public gallery, and an archaeological professors from Bristol University, the Council decided to hold a site meeting with objectors and English Heritage before coming to a decision.
Commenting on this development Green Party Town Councillor Duncan Kerr, who has helped Hands Off Oswestry Old Hill Fort, said “This development is a huge step forward for the campaign. I am convinced that the more that Town Councillors find out about this scheme the more they will recognise, as I do, that it is not good for our heritage and it’s not good for Oswestry either. We must all keep the pressure up”.
The next step in the campaign is a benefit concert on Saturday the 14th of September at 8pm in Hermon, Chapel St, Oswestry, featuring Shifty Chicken Shed and a host of other local bands. Tickets are £5 from Outwhere records.
