REVIEW - The Amazing Cheese Club at The Dining Rooms, Oswestry

Even a cheese addict might have thought that a 5 course menu based heavily on cheese would be OTT. Not a bit of it!

So it proved at Oswestry Cheese Club’s first dinner held in the ever accommodating setting of the Dining Rooms on Welsh Walls where the popular monthly Cheese Club tasting sessions led by international Cheese Grader Bruce Macdonald have been held since Autumn 2012.

There was a minimum amount of fuss when 60 cheese aficionados sat down on Jan 9th to enjoy a wonderfully paced occasion. A total of 10 cheeses found their way without dominating into an essentially vegetarian menu, each course subtly balanced by different wines and spirits chosen with characteristic panache by host and restaurateur Geoffrey Hughes.

It an unusual experience to be in amongst a large group of gourmets when all are eating the same food at the same time. It really did go rather quiet when each new cheese challenge arrived at the tables delivered by the staff with their usual discreet efficiency, and as palates and minds were absorbing the gamut of tastes and textures.

Utterly satisfying, and at the reasonable cost of £35. More information from Bruce Macdonald at www.cheesegrading.com and of course, the Dining Rooms at www.the-dining-rooms.co.uk
The next Cheese Club meeting is on Tuesday 4th Feb.
