I went along to the Local Joint Committee at the Meadows School recently. First on, was a presentation on the new Town Green design.
The designs have been imaginatively constructed with echoes of the hillfort and the railways reflected in some of the features.
The designer was also keen to point out that they didn't want to over-design it, and so having the fortune of tonnes of soil from the leisure centre development to hand, spread it around the edges to become - in time - wildflower meadows.
It is hoped that the Oswestry Town Green development will also act as a catalyst for other nearby developments, namely, the reawakening of the sleeping Cambrian Railway Station - a most exciting development! Once the trains are moving, the Railway Station suddenly makes sense.
Then, we have the intriguing maze - one of the largest in the UK. The entrance to which will be a stone which will be carved with lines from poet Wilfred Owen as part of the dedication of the site to Wilfred. An excellent choice.
So, I wish the new Oswestry Town Green well and thank the design team and the those involved in their construction for some impressively speedy work.
A quick introduction - I'm John Waine, Director of TheBestOfOswestry. Having lived in this beautiful area for around 20 years now, I have decided to stay. :)
With kind thanks
John
