Oswestry Choral Society (OCS) was founded in 1888 and has been producing concerts in the Oswestry area for over 120 years.
A mixed voice choir of about 55 members, ranging in age from 14-80 years, the choir performs a wide variety of music from large choral works to shorter classical songs, sacred and secular, gospel and Jazz pieces.
The choir relishes the opportunity to sing new musical works and is open to all music genres. Recent concerts include: Vivaldi’s Gloria, Monteverdi’s Beatus Vir, Schubert’s Mass in G Major, Bob Chilcott’s Jubilate and A Little Jazz Mass, John Rutter’s Feel the Sprit and Weber’s E Flat Mass. Visit www.oschoral.org/history for full list of works performed.
The choir gives two major concerts a year, Christmas and Spring, plus special request invitation concerts. Most concerts are performed in churches in and around Oswestry however, some require a larger venue such as joint and invitation concerts.
Rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings during school term in the Musgrave Centre, Moreton Hall School, Weston Rhyn, Oswestry, Shropshire at 7.30pm.
Leading up to the concerts extra rehearsals may be called by the choir’s musical director. These rehearsals are usually for individual voice sections (soprano, alto, tenor and bass) and take place at a suitable time and venue by arrangement.
New members are always welcome and auditions are not held.
All the society asks is that you can sing in tune and are prepared to attend rehearsals on a regular basis.
