The Best of Oxford is pleased to announce the making of footballing history! Oxford City Casuals met Banbury United for a friendly football match last Monday, both teams being comprised entirely of players with learning disabilities.
The event would never have taken place if it hadnʼt been for the enthusiasm and dedication of all involved (all volunteers!), not to mention the forty or so players who each got to enjoy a piece of the action on pitch. It is very much hoped that this match will be a forerunner to a new league next season, with neighbouring counties forming similar teams. I, for one, think this is a extremely worthy initiative to support and The Best of Oxford is proud to be a sponsor of Oxford City Casuals (who celebrated a home win, incidentally!). England may not have qualified for the World Cup, but isnʼt it good to know that the nationʼs favourite sport is alive and kicking in the Oxford community?
By the way, any Clubs interested in forming learning disability teams or anyone seeking advice should contact their local FA Football Development Officer or call Oxford City on 07817 885396, or email ctoxford@btinternet.com.
