Head of Community and Events Fundraising

Hours: 37.5 hours

Salary: £31,072 to £40,964 depending on experience

The Charity:

Helen & Douglas House cares for terminally ill children, young adults and their families through exceptional hospice care. We provide medical, emotional and practical support, helping families deal with the implications of living with a child who will die prematurely, so they can make the most of their time together. As a charity we rely almost entirely on donations to support our families.

The Role:

We are looking for an experienced people manager who can lead and motivate an established and talented team to develop our portfolio of community and events fundraising and take it to the next level. We already have some very successful well-loved events, such as our annual famous Santa Run in Oxford, and are looking to build on this success further with the introduction of exciting new events to add to the mix.

The successful person will therefore need to be highly creative and courageous with an eye for detail and good awareness of current trends as well as being a great motivator to encourage the team to work to the same vision. You will need to demonstrate substantial experience of community and events fundraising including budget development and forecasting. As a senior manager you’ll be involved in the development of fundraising and organisational strategy and be part of a fun and vibrant work place that makes such a difference to so many.

The ideal candidiate will:

  • Be educated to degree standard or equivalent
  • Have considerable managerial experience in a fundraising role 

  • Have a proven track record of success in a community-based fundraising role and demonstrable experience of formulating and delivering long term fundraising strategies. 

  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively – orally and in writing – at all levels

  • Show commitment and a conscientious approach to work

It is anticipated that first interviews will be held on Tuesday 18th August.  This will include a short presentation as well as a formal interview with the Director of Fundraising and the HR Manager.  Successful candidates will be invited for a second interview on Tuesday 25th August that will include a meeting with the wider Fundraising Team.
