Catherine says, ‘I am so excited to be working on this brand new collection with Sarah Wiseman Gallery. Following on our sell out exhibition in 2021 titled ’The Dog Show’ - this exhibition will see dogs being perhaps a little more active as we follow them on new adventures...
For many years now, I have been slightly obsessed with drawing dogs. It’s impossible to tire of studying the different breeds. From the lanky Great Dane to the squirrel like Chihuahua, their unique characteristics are a dream for an artist like me.’
Catherine likes to paint dogs using a variety of materials, anything from pencil to thick emulsion, sandpaper and cotton wool - on board and on paper, every breed requires its own combination of techniques to portray them successfully and convey their individuality.
For her there is a real pleasure in painting combinations of dogs of varying shapes and sizes, the juxtaposition of a smooth whippet next to a wire-haired dachshund creates such a visual treat as does a bouncy spaniel with a basset hound.
Dogs have made us smile for years - as humans our connection with our four-legged friends is scientifically proven to increase serotonin, reduce stress and promote mental well-being. It’s no wonder we love them so much.
‘Working on my dog painting brings me similar pleasure and I hope that having these characters on the walls in your house is equally bound to bring daily joy to all those who see it.
In this exhibition I will be exploring our relationships with our canine friends as well as their relationships with each other. When you walk into the gallery, I’m hoping it will feel as though you are venturing out in to one of the most favoured past times of dog lovers all over the world - The Dog Walk!’
