Mid November? How did that happen? Before you know it, there will be nativities left, right and centre and it’ll be time to root around the attic looking for the tree and tinsel will be all over the house!
Speaking of… THAT time of year, remember that Prior Preparation Prevents Particularly Poor Performance! The community markets at Haverfordwest, Hermon and Fishguard are still up and running and there’s nothing to stop you from buying and part-prepping some (or all) of your vegetable dishes before popping in the freezer so that when it comes to feeding the 5000, at least half the work is done for you… just a thought :) We’re ALL supposed to be able to get some enjoyment out of Christmas and if you can reduce the amount of time you’re slaving over a hot stove when everyone else is cracking nuts and sipping sherry, well, even better! No panic-buying sprouts for you! The local markets are listed here – have a look. https://www.thebestof.co.uk/local/pembrokeshire/events/markets
I’m not superstitious but Friday 13th approaches and I think it’s better that I stay out of the kitchen on the grounds of health and safety. Luckily for me – and you – the staff at Picton Castle aren’t so daft and will be offering you the opportunity to enjoy their fantastic tapas menu that evening so why not spare yourself the risk of cooking and washing up and instead, enjoy a taste of the Mediterranean? Quick, book it now - Here’s how! https://www.thebestof.co.uk/local/pembrokeshire/events/feature/tapas-night
On Saturday 14th there will be a concert in aid of Amnesty International: Making A Song And Dance Of It will be a varied evening of entertainment at Rhosygilwen in North Pembrokeshire and all the performers are doing so free of charge. You’ll hear more kinds of music than you’ll know what to do with and don’t blame me if you find yourself wanting to dance… Find out how to book here https://www.thebestof.co.uk/local/pembrokeshire/events/feature/making-a-song-and-dance-of-it
The National Botanic Garden Of Wales may not be in Pembrokeshire but it’s near enough to make it an easy day out so why not take a spin down this weekend (14th and 15th) as they’re having a fantastic, hugely varied - and best of all! – indoor gift fair in the Glasshouse. You can grab something to eat, enjoy the entertainment and take home some treats to go under the tree. Perfect! Find out more here https://www.thebestof.co.uk/local/carmarthenshire/events/feature/garden-gift-fair
Alternatively, stay closer to home at try Colby Woodland Garden’s Winter Fayre, which is also on both days – would it make your weekend too busy if you did one each day? I can think of worse ways to spend a weekend than some fresh air, good food and no-pressure shopping! Find out more about it here https://www.thebestof.co.uk/local/pembrokeshire/events/feature/winter-fayre-1446643202-4201
On Tuesday 17th, the knitting needles will be clicking and clattering at Castell Henllys at their Knit & Natter – a great social for leaners and experts alike and there’s even tea and cake! What a way to spend a morning – find out more here https://www.thebestof.co.uk/local/pembrokeshire/events/feature/knit--natter
If you’re aiming to live a little more simply, rethink how you acquire the food you eat: outdoors is literally full of it and there’s nothing wrong with foraging on common land – it was good enough for our ancestors for hundreds of thousands of years, after all. Do something different and relearn how to live off the land with a group that meets at Oriel Y Parc on most Thursdays. Enjoy this quiet spell before the Seasonal run-up really starts with a vengeance; before you know it there will be gift fairs everywhere you turn and it’ll be time to dust off your Santa suit!
Stay warm and safe and I’ll see you next week.
