Lamphey Bishop's Palace was the choice of retreat for medieval bishops seeking solace from the daily stresses of Church and State. The village of Lamphey is located a few miles east of Pembroke.

The monument that we see today is mostly the work of Henry De Gower, who was the bishop of St David's between 1328 - 11347.
