There's no doubting that children love the summer holidays, but parents quite often dread them, because it can mean 6 weeks of wracking your brains to think of things to keep young children entertained. But, fear not, because we've put together a list of five things you can do around Peterborough this summer with your children.

1. Pitch and putt at Orton Meadows

Ideal for golfing beginners and casual enthusiasts, pitch and putt is a two-three hour activity that gets you and your kids out and about. The course at Orton Meadows is a 12 hole course, and one round will set you back just £3.50 per child, which includes clubs, balls and scoring accessories.

2. Feed the animals at Sacrewell Farm and Country Centre

Younger children will love a trip to Sacrewell Farm and Country Centre, where they can feed the lambs, shire horses, donkeys and chicks, as well as take a ride on the bumpy tractor and discover the working watermill. There is also an indoor activity barn to keep children entertained all day, and a restaurant that serves fresh hot food for adults and children.

3. Ice skating at Planet Ice

If the weather is hot and the kids need a cool down, why not take them along to Planet Ice and let them skate away in the cool confines of the ice rink? There's a dedicated toddler's session on Sunday mornings so that young children can skate safely, and the centre also offer learn to skate 5-day courses that will keep your children entertained from Monday to Friday.

4. Learn about the city at Peterborough Cathedral

Peterborough Cathedral may not seem the obvious choice for a day out with the children, but there is plenty to see and do. For those who like heights, you can get a fabulous view of the city from the top of the cathedralâs tower, and there are interactive touch-screens around the cathedral designed to engage children learning about the history of this great building and city.

5. GoKarting at Teamworks in Bretton

Get the kids down to Teamworks and allow them to let out their competitive side, racing against each other on the newly-refurbished Peterborough track. This is a slightly more expensive option, as it will cost around £21.95 for under 16s to drive for between one and two hours. However, it is great fun, and is an activity parents can definitely enjoy with their older children.

Don't forget to let us know how you get on!
