There are certain things that cannot go unmentioned, and last night's Capital One Cup second round tie at London Road in Peterborough is one of those such things.
League One side Peterborough United faced recently relegated Premiership side Reading (who now play in the Championship). Reading have made a good start to their new campaign and looked like tough opponents. However, Posh made light work of them, scoring six goals to break the club's record for the number of goals scored in a League Cup game.
Goals from Britt Assombalonga, Dany Swanson and Jack Payne accompanied a hat-trick from Lee Tomlin, who scored two of his three from the penalty spot.
Peterborough have now scored 23 goals in their opening six games, and their manager, Darren Ferguson, is thrilled with their unbeaten start to the season.
The draw for the third round of the competition takes place on Wednesday 28 August. Peterborough will be hoping for another potential scalp and a long run in the competition.
