They are at it again. Plymouth Civil Service Rugby Club pitch and Civil Service Bowling Club greens are to be replaced by another Plymouth Health Club and 50 dwellings.
The Civil Services Sports Association in London has plans with Plymouth City Council to develop 50 dwellings on Plymouth Civil Service Sports Club (CSSC) with a Plymouth Health Club to go on the Civil Service Rugby Club pitch and upper Civil Service Bowling Club greens. Demolition of the Club buildings and greens, now underway, will permit dwellings from the lower bowls and along Recreation Road. This is all about loss of more sports facilities in Plymouth.
In its heyday the Civil Service Sports Club in Recreation Rd Beacon Park was the jewel in the crown of Southwest Civil Service Clubs. Footballers of all ages played on 2 fine football pitches straddling the Devon County standard cricket green played on by Plymouth Cricket Club and behind them the Plymouth Civil Services Rugby Club. Now there will be one less pitch to accommodate sports players and no bowling greens or indoor bowling alleys at all. And one more Plymouth Health Club on the rugby pitch site.
It's time to ask some questions about this development.
