Traditionally we give things up for Lent. So I thought long and hard about what to give up….
Obviously it needs to be something enjoyable, but something realistic. I considered cheese, but as I don’t like this it would have been a bit of a cop out. I then considered chocolate, biscuits and crisps, but as I do like these, but rarely eat them, this was a bit of a cop out too. Red wine (or any colour really), came next on my list of considerations. This fell by the wayside as not being realistic.
Hmmm where to go with this? Then it hit me… why give something up, when you can add something - I am reassured that this is equally valid thing to do. So I am trying to be more tolerant of, and try more veggies. Yup, veggies. I am not a veg fan, although I KNOW how good they are for you, it is just; Cauli, cabbage, sprouts, broccoli, green beans, runner beans. Basically if it is green (except for peas), I don’t like it.
So progress… I have tried broccoli, and I must report that it was not too bad. I cannot say I am a fan, but I did manage to eat three little florets. It came with a bit of salmon and a sauce and was cooked beautifully. So, what next? I feel I must work up to a sprout, but maybe green beans. Or take a middle ground and go a veggie bean burger?
Speak soon, Aly.
