Our Very Own Gillian Webb on BBC's Week-in-Week Out - Families Forced to Sell Houses To Pay Care Home Fees
BBC iPlayer - Week-In-Week-Out 25 October 2011.
This weeks highly viewed week in week out documentary looked at how Welsh families are having to sell their family homes in order to pay and cover the cost of care.
Gillian Webb who has been involved with thebestof for several years has experienced this service first hand - If you have not yet had the chance to view the week in week out epsiode on families selling their homes to cover care fees here a very brief recab.
The basis of the documentary was based on the fact that we expect a cradle to grave care policy in Wales. However, this is now more than often means tested against liquid and tangible assets - ie property, land and cash. It's extremely unfourtunate that in Gillians case her family has had to sell their mothers home in order that the cost of care can be met. The documentary seeks to explore this to a wider extent and the viewpoint of the WAG which, are somewhat vaguely conveyed through the week in week out documentary.
This is not a typical blog that I would write hoever there are ways in which families may be able to prevent this process taking place - and this can be based on having the right Will in place that covers areas including asset protection and trusts. I use the word 'may' - as it depends on several factors - if you are interested in learning more about this and are in a position to look ahead or have experienced initial concerns regarding this I would strongly recommend that you speak with a Wills and Estate Planning specialist.
We have our very own specialist in Pontypridd and Rhondda that is highly experienced and a specialist in this field, Alan Hargreaves of Allguard Legal Services, Wills and Estate Planing for Pontypridd - Rhondda - Cardiff and beyond.
