Poole Town FC made light work of their first leg Wessex League Cup semi final at Farnborough North End. Kevin Gill (Gilly) scored two first half goals, the second of which was celebrated with a belly flop in the mud. These were the first goals this season for a player that was last years player of the season. Having only one own goal recorded this season, at Weymouth, Gilly apeared to be enjoying scoring in the right goal again.
Just before halftime, Ryan Dovell made it 3-0 with a powerful shot from 20 yards out after the Farnborough defense had just thwarted a Steve Smith effort.
In the second half there was just one more goal, this one coming from a Mickey Hubbard free kick. Mickey is somewhat a deadball specialist taking free kicks, corners and penalties. In this case he noticed the defensive wall was out of position and with no player on the near post, just sidefooted the ball into the net for a soft goal.
With the away goals counting, Farnborough would need to score 5 at Tatnam to make the final, so Poole look to have this wrapped up.............but football is a funny old game!
Poole are back in League action on Saturday, away at Fareham, before returning to Tatnam on Tuesday 30th for the second leg semi final against Farnborough North End.
