Created by Horace Walpole in the 18th century, Strawberry Hill House, based in Twickenham, is world renowned and considered the country's finest example of Georgian Gothic revival architecture.
The rooms
A visit to Strawberry Hill House is a truly theatrical experience. Extravagantly lit by it's unique collection of renaissance glass, its castle-like hall and grey gothic staircase lead dramatically to the gallery.
The garden
Featuring winding paths, grove of trees, lilacs, syringas and honeysuckles, Horace Walpole's garden prided itself on its informality.
With ongoing restoration continuing to return the garden to its original appearance, the original 9 acre garden contained both a lawn and a meadow beyond, flanked by trees and an open terrace with views of the River Thames.
