The Victoria Foundation exists to provide life enhancing medical assistance.
With very broad, but firmly medical, objectives The Victoria Foundation's overall aim is to improve lives where there is an opportunity to do so - either through medical provision or by ensuring that those young people destined to become the future generations of doctors are not thwarted by financial restrictions.
Medical support - changing lives
The charity's main focus currently, but not exclusively, is on providing medical support in four key areas; the Foundation's trustees have identified these as potential gaps in the current provision by The State. This focus ensures that they can help improve the lives of those in most need. The Foundation is also able to provide medical support outside of those areas on a case by case basis.
Mobility Aids for Children
The Victoria Foundation is able to support children who suffer from diseases that affect their mobility, and where financial constraints do not allow the private purchase of mobility aids. The specialised mobility equipment helps to give children their independence to enjoy an active childhood.
Medical Bursaries
The Victoria Foundation aims to ensure that young people who may not otherwise be able to study in the field of medicine are given the opportunity to do so, by providing funds on a bursary basis to those with proven academic ability and the requisite drive and ambition to succeed in this demanding but rewarding area.
Accessible Transport
The Foundation is able to help residents of the London Boroughs of Richmond and Kingston suffering from any medical condition that renders conventional transport either inaccessible or inappropriate. One specially adapted mini-bus can provide an elderly, frail or medically infirm person with the opportunity to leave their home and continue life as part of the community. Without this, the quality of life for many residents would be vastly reduced.
Medical Treatment
The Victoria Foundation is able to access free private medical treatment at The New Victoria Hospital in Kingston for those in financial hardship where treatment is not readily available on the NHS, and where the treatment would be life enhancing. The Foundation has also reached agreement with The London Clinic that enables it to receive referrals from their consultants to provide the treatment. The Foundation will consider funding medical treatment at any hospital provided the relevant criteria are met.
