A very good friend of mine took part in the Great River Race 2010 on Saturday - rowing 22 miles up the River Thames from London's Docklands to Richmond.
She was rowing - for the first time (excluding a bit of training) - with other novice volunteers from the Ahoy Youth Sailing Centre near Greenwich.
Up until about a week ago, The Ahoy didn't even have a row boat to take part in (being more a sailing charity after all), and acquired a dilapidated old tub which no one was sure would even stay afloat, let alone do well in the race!
However, on the day itself, they did brilliantly well, coming 2nd in their class of Thames Waterman Cutters, and 44th overall - out of 321 other teams that participated.
A brilliant result and the blisters were all worth it!
Did you head down to the Thames on Saturday to watch the end of The Great River Race 2010? Or do you also know someone who took part and deserves a mention?
