Plans are underway to transform a small strip of the Thames riverbank into Richmond upon Thames’ first artificial beach.
As part of National Play Day on 27th July, Champions Wharf in Twickenham will be transformed into a sandy oasis with 20 tonnes of sand and will remain open until Friday 19th August.
There will also be a programme of fun activities for the whole family, including play and sport sessions, story telling, free art workshops and of course plenty of buckets and spades for building sand castles.
The Park will be open Monday to Saturday by 7.30 am, Sundays and Bank Holidays by 9:00 am and closes at dusk. Council play rangers will be on site for large portions of the day. The play ranger scheme is open access and not registered childcare so children should be accompanied by an adult.
