Waterside Dental Care started in 1947 by Pamela Coates' father John Cameron Coates. It was situated on Halifax Road near The Sandknockers Pub. When that area was demolished in 1962 to make way for the library the practise moved to the present premises on Yorkshire St. The practise has always been a family affair, with John Coates' wife Dr Muriel Coates and later his brother Dr Malcolm Coates providing the dental anaesthetics. During his career he bought additional practises in Ashton-under-Lyne, Manchester City Centre and Lees Oldham. These practises have been sold over the years. His daughter Pamela qualified in 1976 and concentrated on the Manchester practise, His son Ian qualified in 1978 and worked in the Lees Practise. For a time another son William was employed as the Practise Manager, until setting up the engineering business Advanced Dental Maintenance. His third son James trained as a dental technician and met his future wife in the dental laboratory run by Arthur Armstrong. The practise became known as a centre for dental anaesthetics and orthodontics receiving referrals from other practises as far away as Halifax. Over the past few years our skills have expanded to include tooth whitening, smile makeover techniques, dental implants, laser dentistry, "Invisalign" , "Inman Aligners" and "Six Month Smiles" plus "Oralift" and facial aesthetics to help our patients look good for their age. We have constantly aimed to provide a high standard of dental care, dental equipment and materials, with constant refurbishment and investment in new equipment and materials, for example our relaxing video glasses, the intra-oral camera, the "Waterlase" dental laser and The Florida Probe. The dental care for our patients is provided by Practise Owner Dr Pamela Coates and Dental Therapist - Hygienist Claire Louise Greenhalgh. Our staff are dental nurses Vicky McRobbie and Louise Mills and receptionist Kim O'Connor. Please enquire at Waterside Dental Care if you have queries about any aspect of your dental care.
