Rochdale is a strong community with lots of great people. One reason for this is acceptance. Everybody is accepted for who they are, with just the odd descrimination story heard every now and again. This acceptance of individuals and their uniqueness is what helps good communities grow.
Rochdale is becoming more aware of Mental Health problems. Mental health problems can range from mild to severe and include the worries we all experience and serious long-term conditions.
Mental health problems are usually defined and classified by professionals to aid them in caring and treating those who are suffering.
There is much debate as to whether these restrictive definitions allow for individuals to be properly treated, or if these labels may perhaps be causing harm in themselves.
There are different types of mental illnesses some more common than others. Traditionally these were divided as "Neurotic" and "psychotic", Neurotic being the more common health problems such as depression and anxiety, these are now more widely referred to as 'common mental health problems'.
Less common are Psychoti symptoms which include paranoia, hallucinations etc.
Mental health problems disrupt the lives of sufferers and make it difficult for them to carry on with their everyday lives.
Now that more places like Rochdale are embracing sufferers and accepting them more people are willing to come forward with their mental health problems. However, there are still people who are suffering in silence for fear of judgement and negative reactions.
Luckily Mental health campaigns in and around Rochdale will help these people com forward and will help others be less judgemental and more understanding.
