I was late bloomer as far as exercising goes, I didn’t grow up in a family that was sporty or encouraged physical activity, in fact even now must of my family think I am totally insane. Eating was quite a regular pass time in my family big family meals were you weren’t allowed to leave the table till your plate was cleared.
What changed I hear you asking, well I had a baby rather a big baby for my petite size and bless him he did a little damage to the back in delivery.
The damage was so severe that I had to have physio to learn to walk properly, I then made a decision that I could do one of two things I could stay home immobile and let my back pain dictate what I could do or I could take control manage the pain and get on with my life.
So I joined a gym and started exercising not really knowing what I was doing but I was moving, I went on to have a second child who was delivered without any trauma of the first one and this was put down to the fact that I was a regular exerciser.
I continued to exercise on a regular basis at the gym, and then when I was 40 I set a goal I was going to run the Great North run. So I got myself a personal trainer, that’s when exercise got serious for me.
I completed the run in 2004 and started to retrain as a Personal Trainer, 2006 I was a fully qualified Personal trainer I was teaching 11 aerobic classes a week and still running. By 2010 by back was starting to trouble me again the pain when I STOPPED moving was horrendous sitting & sleeping was uncomfortable.
So I took a course in exercise for the management of lower back pain and retrained in Modern Pilates, doing the back and core exercises as enabled me to manage my back pain
