Whitworth And Healey Horticultural Society and the Whitworth Vale and Healey Youth Band have combined their creativity to present a ‘Music in the Park' concert in the Memorial Gardens, Facit, Whitworth on Sunday 21 July.
The concert starts at 2pm when the Youth Band will perform a selection of tunes from their repertoire in the relaxing Garden surroundings. The public are encouraged to bring their own seating and even a picnic if they wish; light refreshments will also be available over the road at the Riverside, where the bar will be open and Bucks Fizz will be sold at a reasonable cost.
Anita Farrow from the Horticultural Society says: “At similar events in London each summer audiences bring deck chairs or blankets to sit on whilst they are entertained; the Society is hopeful that the community might also embrace this tradition here. The Gardens will be in full bloom by then and should complement the Youth Band’s music beautifully. We’re optimistic but realistic about the weather and, should the rain set in, we have a contingency plan to move the event indoors at the Riverside.”
The concert is the last event to be funded through a Community Spaces grant awarded to the Horticultural Society to rejuvenate the Memorial Gardens. Community Spaces is keen for the Whitworth community to make use of and enjoy the newly restored Gardens, and works in the Gardens included elements to make them more user-friendly – paths were re-tarmaced, new benches installed and a raised, paved area created for general use and utilised by the Band on Remembrance Sunday.
Entry to the Music in the Park concert is free of charge and all are welcome - light refreshments, drinks and Bucks Fizz at the Riverside will be on sale.
