A huge rise in reported cases of domestic violence has prompted leading Rossendale law firm Woodcocks to launch a specialist department aimed at helping victims.
According to Lancashire Police statistics, last year 10,755 people in Lancashire were victims of domestic violence, a rise of 2,700 since 2008.
The expert domestic violence team of 10, headed by specialist Family solicitor Kate Allsop, will assist victims of violence in the home by ensuring they get vital advice when it is needed.
“There has been a rise in incidents of domestic violence over the past year, which is why we have set up this specialist department, so people know exactly who they can turn to,” says Kate.
"We fully understand just how difficult and upsetting this sort of situation can be for people. It's a very difficult time in their lives so it is important that they can talk to someone who understands,
"Our expert team has a wealth of experience in these types of domestic violence cases and will be there to help, day or night, in times of need.
"When things go wrong in a relationship we know that seeking help or legal advice can be very difficult. We can give people immediate, expert advice, as well as putting them in touch with other people who can help with issues such as housing, children and finances.
"In serious cases, we can take emergency action to obtain an injunction providing additional police and court protection and we can look after things like Legal Aid. It may also be possible to apply for an order removing the violent partner from the home.
"Naturally, we understand it is difficult for people to take the first step, but people can be assured that our specialist team will always treat them with sensitivity, professionalism and care."
Woodcocks is also about to launch a series of regular surgeries in Bury, Rawtenstall, Haslingden and Bacup on a wide range of family matters.
