International opera star Sean Ruane is heading home for Christmas with a special one-off appearance in Bacup.

The tenor will perform a new show at Bacup’s Royal Court on Sunday December 11 and will also be joined on stage by members of Bytes — the Bacup Youth Theatre — and youngsters from the after school performing arts club PAASC for a show that will have a special Festive theme.

“I’m really looking forward to it — it should be a very special night. I love playing concerts in my home town because the support I get from the audience is unique,” says Sean.

“There will be a lot of familiar faces in the audiences — family and friends — and it always makes for an intimate atmosphere.

“The show will feature a mix of opera standards with some seasonal favourites. I am delighted that I’ll be joined by Bytes and PAASC. It’s great to be working with young people in the area. I started my career in a local group and I have a lot of respect for the work they do.”

Rossendale-born Sean last performed in Bacup at a sell out show in February. In recent weeks he has been starring in a sell out UK tour of Madame Butterfly in which he has been performing the role of Pinkerton.

Sean, who lives in Rossendale, has worked all over Europe including the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, and has developed a reputation as one of the leading tenors of his generation.

Tickets for the show are already selling fast and are priced at £15. For more information contact the Royal Court Theatre Box Office on 01706 874080.
