Conservative MP, Mark Pawsey celebrated a victory in Rugby today, with a margin of almost 6,000 votes over his closest rivals.
The results, which were not finalised until 5am this morning at the Benn Hall, showed a total vote of 20,901 for the Conservatives, with Andy King of Labour coming second with 14,901 and Jerry Roodhouse of the Liberal Democrats in third place with 9434.
The turnout in Rugby was especially high, with almost 70% of the town venturing to their nearest polling station to cast their vote.
A significant increase on the last election in 2005, this trend has continued nationwide, with people citing the 'credit crunch' and the loss of jobs in local areas as key contributions to their renewed interest in the political system.
