Plans to pedestrianise the section of North Street outside the entance to the Clock Towers shopping centre and create a traffic-free piazza have moved a step closer to realisation this week.
The proposal, which is due to be discussed as a Rugby Area Committee meeting tonight, will see the part of North Street betweeen the entrance to Chestnut Field car park and Regent Street closed off to provide space for benches and cafe style outside dining areas.
The scheme has been welcomed by local business owners and councillors, but details still need to be confirmed on where the proposed £160,000 funds required to begin the project will come from.
Robin Richter, Director of Rugby First commented: "Essentially the decision has been made to do it and we are talking about the detail of the scheme, not the scheme itself. We want to do it and I'm sure it will happen."
