News Release - Matthew Deaves - Rugby Borough Council
Councillor Craig Humphrey, Leader of Rugby Borough Council, has praised council staff for their contribution to the history of the borough, and for delivering outstanding services in the face of exceptional circumstances.
In an end of year message to staff, Councillor Humphrey said: "We always knew that 2012 would be a magnificent year. The Olympics and the Queen's Diamond Jubilee meant that as a nation we have much to look back on and be proud of, but here in Rugby we have a permanent legacy.
"The Diamond Jubilee celebrations brought thousands of people into the town centre for a celebration the scale of which we have not seen in this borough for years, and we have a permanent record of that event inscribed on the Clock Tower.
"The Olympic Torch relay and Godiva Awakes events were also remarkable, and I thank all of the staff who organised and contributed to these events.
"Although not all of our staff could get involved, everyone has contributed during the course of 2012.
"We will soon have a brand new leisure centre, a crematorium, and a Diamond Jubilee wood. We have new play areas, and more on the way, and we will shortly start work on new council houses at Pettiver Crescent. Our staff have revised the way we deliver many of our services, saving over £1million and providing better customer services as a result.
"Rugby Borough Council is now seen as an innovative authority, with responsive customer services. There is more good work to be done, but our staff can be proud of a job well done in 2012."
Councillor Humphrey concluded: "I wish all of our staff and residents a merry Christmas, and a happy and prosperous 2013."
