Would you love to step back in time and don a full Victorian costume? A free fun day called ‘Talking Portraits’ promises just that - the perfect outing for your family over the summer.

The Leicestershire Victorian Dance Group will perform quadrilles and reels in full Victorian costume. The event takes place at Rugby Art Gallery and Museum on Wednesday 3 August 10.30am to 12.30 pm.

The Group is performing as part of the free Celebration Day for the successful ‘Talking Portraits’ schools project. Children and adults can purchase photographs of themselves dressed in Victorian costume or try their hand at the traditional craft of découpage.

Delicious delicacies from the ‘Talking Portaits’ project time periods will also be on sale.

‘Talking Portraits’ is a Heritage Lottery Fund project, aimed at unlocking the stories that exist behind portraits with the help of re-enactors, artists and gallery staff. Children from 12 Rugby school groups were amazed to see the Victorian and 1940s’ wartime portraits of the Rugby Collection come to life and being able to hold real objects from the Museum collection thoroughly inspired their creativity in their own art work. The exhibition of children’s work is on show on the second floor in the Art Gallery alongside the Rugby Collection Exhibition until 28th August

Entrance is free though there will be a small cost for refreshments and photographs. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
