Mark Pawsey MP takes locally brewed beer to House of Commons bar
'Webb Ellis' beer served in Strangers Bar
Local MP Mark Pawsey has made arrangements for beer brewed in the Constituency to be on tap in Strangers Bar at the House of Commons during the Six Nations Rugby Union Championship. Wood Farm Brewery, based in Willey, has patented and trademarked the beer and ale brand 'Webb Ellis' after the Rugby School pupil who first picked up a football and ran with it in 1823.
Mark said:
'I am delighted that it's been possible to have a beer from my Constituency in the House of Commons. I visited Wood Farm Brewery last Summer, and after hearing of the rugby-themed beer brands, had the idea to try and make this happen.'
He continued:
'It's been great to welcome Sue and Phil Dewes from the brewery to Westminster to witness their beer 'on tap'. This coincides with their first full year of operation, as the brewery and Visitor Centre was officially opened in March 2011. I wish them all the best with their business, employing local people and promoting the town and its' links with the game of Rugby. '
Sue and Phil said:
'We are very proud to be here in Parliament and are very honoured to have our beer in the House of Commons. In the middle of the Six Nations it is great to be able to bring the game of Rugby to Parliament. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Mark for setting this up as we are very grateful to him for the exposure this could generate.'
Comment from Vic..."Wood Farm Brewery produce an excellent selection of traditional local beers that are brewed with real passion and can be enjoyed along with a great game of Rugby at the Rugby Lions, Webb Ellis Road, Rugby".
