My name is Jim Scott and I have been helping businesses in South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire to develop and grow for nearly twenty years - in that time I have helped around 2500 businesses either on a one to one basis or on training courses to become more effective with marketing, selling and running their businesses for profit.
You can find out more at www.sdg.uk.com / info@sdg.uk.com / 07714 105962 but on this site I will be creating a series of short blog posts relating to an aspect of developing your business - mainly to do with sales and marketing.
No1 in the series!
Working ON your business
I usually start with a bit about attitude but I see that someone has already done that. Developing a "YES" and "CAN DO" attitude will probably more than anything else make you more successful. Loads of good books and loads of good articles on the subject and I strongly recommend Jeffrey Gitomer's Little Gold Book of YES! Attitude and The Little Book of Business Thoughts by Rick Armstrong and Rob P Brown.
Both are easy to read and whatever frame of mind you start with when you pick either of them up you will feel charged with positive energy after a few pages.
So - on to working ON your business. My inspiration for this line of thought and the way I work with most businesses comes from Michael Gerber, Author of E-Myth. I first read his book in the early 90's and back then he was concerned with businesses like IBM, MacDonalds and large hotel chains and so I adapted his views to micro businesses.
Interests include property renovation, messing about in boats, my old Morris Minor Convertible, solar energy, trying the odd real ale and of course my business - making other people's businesses more profitable
