Whilst driving north up Firth Park Road recently I noticed the empty boating lake on the right hand side. This brought back memories of my childhood in the 60's and 70's when we would visit my Grandma on Hinde House Lane and wander up to the park.
We used to have a little wooden yacht with sails that we could sail on the lake. No engines, remote controls then, just wind power and sails. I can't remember how we used to control the direction of the yacht, but I guess we didn't and it eventually came back to one of the edges.
I'm not sure what happened to the boating lake as it looked empty and abandoned. Does anyone know what the story was behind the closing of the old boating lake and are there any plans to bring it back to life?
